Towers Mall Renovation

Towers Mall Interior Renovation, Roanoke Virginia

Interior Creations worked closely with C2Architecture to provide interior design services updating the interior mall portion of Towers Shopping Centers upper and lower levels. It had not been seen a renovation in over thirty years and it’s age was in stark contrast to the updated exterior portions of the building.

History

Built in 1961, the interior portion of the mall was originally an open walkway area that encircled the mall’s namesake; a radio tower built in 1936. During the 1970’s the open area was enclosed to provide an additional 7800 square feet of indoor shopping and a large escalator leading to the lower level in the back replaced the brick stairway.

SCOPE

The goal was to lighten and brighten the dark interior. The dated and dark corridors were modernized with new tile floors, bright energy efficient LED lighting, new ceiling panels, and bulkheads all in light colors. To make the mall feel larger two shops, two restrooms, and the escalators were removed from the back upper level to create a open court area. Here patrons can sit and use Towers free Wi-Fi. The large escalator was replaced with a new elevator and stair. Two art display walls to highlight the local schools talent were included as part of the renovation to carry on Towers long standing commitment to the community.
